This is a sample drawing for a new project I'm putting together: custom fantasy pet portraits. Most pet portraits are basically a copy of the image you send the artist. In my case it would be "My dog, running across Mars" or "My horse jumping over the crescent moon." Or in this case, "My guinea pig having a birthday party."

This is a sketch I drew for a client who has commissioned artwork for her three year old son and his favorite toy, a stuffed piggy. I noticed when I visited - couldn't help but notice, really - that he was mad for monster trucks. I think he will like this sketch, but it's always hard to tell.

I have to admit I'm quietly proud of this one. I am terrible with drawing technology things, but I think the truck came out pretty well.

8x10 printed on 100% archival acid-free paper at a local print shop. Each one will be shipped inside a plastic sleeve with a backing board, ready to be popped into a frame.

I'm working around to setting up shop doing pet portraits in this sort of modern illustration style. Grumpy Cat was sort of a warm-up, if you will.

This was a quick pen sketch I dashed off while on the phone with a client. I was barely even paying attention, and it has some pretty serious technical issues. (For example, in real life her whiskers are full-size.) And yet I feel that it captures my cat better than all the other sketches I have labored over in the past.

Ain't that always the way?
